Play with us: Democratic Presidential Debate Bingo

When Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Lincoln Chafee, Martin O’Malley and Jim Webb walk on stage in Las Vegas at 9 p.m. Tuesday, voters will get their first chance to size up the Democratic presidential field in one place at one time.

To help you make it through the 120 minutes of talking points, folksy phrases and character maligning, here’s the Sun Sentinel Democratic Presidential Debate Bingo. Whenever you hear one of the buzz words, click the square. Get five in row and you’ll have bingo.

Adults could, of course, turn it into a drinking game – something not recommended for anyone who has to work Wednesday morning.

I hit the “new card” button to make sure I had something different from the front page. Will look forward to winning 🙂

I can understand running. What I don’t understand is why is he running as a Democrat. He favors Keystone and thinks the EPA ability to inspect and enforce regulations should be diminished. That right there means an absolutely rejection for President in my household. If we don’t fix the environment, there won’t be any place for him “to serve his country”.

If there’s a chance for a wild card on the stage at Tuesday’s lead-off Democratic debate, the smart money’s on former senator Jim Webb of Virginia.

If Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders were an ice cream flavor, it would be called “Bernie’s yearning” and “it would be a giant chocolate chip on top of the ice cream that covers the entire top,” said Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream co-founder Ben Cohen.

“The giant chip on the top represents all the wealth that’s gone to the top 1% of the population over the last 10 years. And the way you eat it is, you whack it with your spoon and then you mix it around,” Cohen told CNN’s Carol Costello Monday.

Ben & Jerry’s is a Vermont-based company and Cohen and co-founder Jerry Greenfield are longtime Sanders supporters. They endorsed Sanders in May and participated in their fellow Vermonter’s launch of his presidential bid in Burlington.

Unlike the Republican Party’s “reality show” full of candidates, Noah said, the Democratic debates promised to deliver an “epic drama with complex characters and storylines” going into the first installment on Tuesday.
    [….]
The host also poked fun at CNN for airing commercials promoting a Clinton/Sanders encounter while listing Martin O’Malley, Lincoln Chafee and Jim Webb “like the legally-required terms and conditions of a used car ad.”

“Clinton. Sanders. Tomorrow. On CNN,” Noah said bombastically, before quickly adding, “Please note unfortunately Martin O’Malley will be joining the proceedings. Certain viewers may be exposed to Jim Webb. And there’s nothing we can do about Lincoln Chafee.”

For the more well-known candidates, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, it will be a boost or setback.
For the other three, whom many Americans are hard-pressed even to name, it could be a “Carly Fiorina” break – putting them on the radar and on the big playing field.

“Tonight’s Democratic debate is filled with people who are barely Democrats”
by Andrew Prokop at Vox .com

    http://www.vox.com/2015/6/17/8790457/democratic-presidential-candidates-2016

“Perhaps the oddest feature of tonight’s first Democratic presidential debate is that most of the candidates participating are barely even Democrats.

One, Lincoln Chafee, is a former Republican senator who just became a Democrat in 2013. Another, Bernie Sanders, is a longtime independent who calls himself a “democratic socialist.” And a third, Jim Webb, served as Ronald Reagan’s secretary of the Navy, only becoming a Democratic politician during George W. Bush’s presidency.

It’s no coincidence that the small Democratic field is filled with people with such weak ties to the party establishment — it’s a direct consequence of Hillary Clinton’s assumed strength as a candidate. With the sole exception of Martin O’Malley, ambitious Democratic politicians who spent their whole careers in the Democratic Party chose not to challenge Clinton

And make no mistake, those ambitious Democrats do exist………………………..In the Senate, for instance, there’s Elizabeth Warren, of course, but there’s also Colorado’s Michael Bennet, Virginia’s Tim Kaine (or Virginia’s Mark Warner!), Ohio’s Sherrod Brown, Minnesota’s Amy Klobuchar, and New York’s Kirsten Gillibrand. Among current or recent governors, Democrats have New York’s Andrew Cuomo, Massachusetts’s Deval Patrick, and Colorado’s John Hickenlooper, among others.”

There are going to be a whole lot of really pissed senior citizens next year. My current insurance policy will not be offered. There will be no Social Security COLA. The part B deduction will go up as will the rates for a comparable policy to get what I now have. For starters the SS I receive will go down by $60. My insurance plan will go from $0 to $55 a month and all co pays will go up. On the plus side the YMCA plan I currently have at $45 a month is included in the healthcare plan. So I’m basically out $70 a month and $20 office visits. If I don’t try to die, it should be affordable, but a whole lot of other people will not be happy.

Just realized that because of having to pick up grandson, I’m going to miss most of the debate as I won’t be home until 7:00. No bingos and no alcohol for the duration.

How much time will Andy Cooper spend trying to get them to talk about Donald Trump?

  12. patd Avatar
    blueINdallas

Amen, Jamie. I would love to support Craig’s candidate, but he’s just not green enough…or at all.

Did Hillary make a mistake by going to an event staged outside of Trump’s hotel? Despite the message she was sending, that just gives Super Duper Cooper more reason to get her to respond to Trump instead of the other people on the stage.

However, since Trump has agreed to host SNL in November, he’ll have even more free publicity…and it won’t hurt him. I don’t know how, but it will make him stronger.

Webb has not performed well up to this point. Chafee should go home.

This is not the HRC of the 2007 debates. She is attempting to talk over people rather than to them.

At this point the evening belongs to Sanders.

None of this makes much difference at this point.

    1. Jamie Avatar

Have to go with Clinton. Sanders still hasn’t impressed me. I like his policies but there is too much grampy cranky pants about him for me to think he would make a good President.

Hillary Clinton exudes confidence on debate stage
    Stephen Collinson Profile
    By Stephen Collinson
    http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/13/politics/democratic-debate-updates/index.html
“(CNN)Hillary Clinton swept confidently into the campaign season’s first Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday, denying she flip-flopped on key issues for political gain and rebuking her top rival Bernie Sanders for not being tough enough on guns.

In a performance aimed at solidifying her lock on the Democratic nomination, Clinton sought to pivot from a tough summer in which the controversy over her private email server triggered a slump in popularity ratings. She proved to be a polished debater, showing little rust after enduring 25 debates during the 2008 campaign.”

Retired great grandmother living in the Northwest US. Former radio Public Service Director and National Accounts Manager.

I’m a hair-dishevelled heilan’ coo,
Hamish McKay be ma name;
Welcome tae this dreichet glen
I’m cursed tae ca’ ma hame.
Depending on the mood I’m in
I’ll raise ma horns on high,
An’ if I like the look o’ ye
I’ll likely let ye by.
But should I dinnae like the look
O’ ye, then tak great care,
I’ll raise ma horns on high again,
Go on, get oot o’there!
So whether welcome yae or nae,
I’ll raise these horns sae mean,
Then ye shall ken ma meaning
By the twinkle o’ ma een.
