A Stroll Though Memory, Time and Politics With Stops Along The Way

First Saturday in May

Do you give the horse his strength or clothe his neck with a flowing mane?

Do you make him leap like a locust, striking terror with his proud snorting?

He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength, and charges into the fray.

He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; he does not shy away from the sword.

The quiver rattles against his side, along with the flashing spear and lance.

In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.

Job 39:19-24 (NIV)

Into Mischief

This year should be one of the best ever simply because there isn’t a standout star other than the sire for three of the top ten Derby contenders, Renegade, Commandment, and Potente. Into Mischief (foaled March 28, 2005) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse and active sire. During his racing career, he won three of six starts including the CashCall Futurity. Since his retirement, he has developed into an outstanding sire, leading the North American sire list in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. If you have a few coins to rub together, he stands at Spendthrift Farm for a mere $250,000. His other offspring include Authentic (2020 American Horse of the Year), Mandaloun (2021 Kentucky Derby), Life Is Good (Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile), Covfefe (female sprint Champion) and Sovereignty (2025 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes).

If you would like to take a look at the other contenders, You can visit them on the Churchill Downs website. If you would actually like to bet and don’t have a track near you, you can set up a secure account at Twinspires.

About Me

Retired great grandmother living in the Northwest US. Former radio Public Service Director and National Accounts Manager.

I'm a hair-dishevelled heilan' coo,
Hamish McKay be ma name;
Welcome tae this dreichet glen
I'm cursed tae ca' ma hame.
Depending on the mood I'm in
I'll raise ma horns on high,
An' if I like the look o' ye
I'll likely let ye by.
But should I dinnae like the look
O' ye, then tak great care,
I'll raise ma horns on high again,
Go on, get oot o'there!
So whether welcome yae or nae,
I'll raise these horns sae mean,
Then ye shall ken ma meaning
By the twinkle o' ma een.
