I you are a front runner in an election and actually want to serve the country, you might want to attend a debate. Once there, you might want to substantively discuss issues arguing vigorously for your point of view. The issues might include terrorism, military involvement, environment, distribution of wealth, cost of education, and income distribution among many others. You would treat your opponents with respect realizing that while having differences, they too have the best interests of the country at heart. Once the debate was over, you would thank your opponents and say farewell.
What A Concept

I watched last night. I thought that all 3 of them did quite well.
Yeah Jamie… all 3 acting like adults and presidential…. what a concept indeed.
Yes, Jamie, it’s a big contrast from those insane Republican’s.. All 3 Democrats shined.. Great debate, keep em coming, lol
Not only did they behave like reasonable human beings, but they managed to stay close to actual facts: Fact Checking Democratic Debate
Last Night’s Democratic Debate Took Place on a Different Planet
This planet—let’s call it “Earth”—is not just a dangerous place, it’s a complicated one
By D.D. Guttenplan
http://www.thenation.com/article/last-nights-democratic-debate-took-place-on-a-different-planet/
“It’s a planet where threat of climate change is uncontroversial. As is the need for comprehensive immigration reform, including a path to citizenship for those immigrants already here. And while the difference between $12 and $15 an hour is not trivial—especially for those trying to living on it—the Democrats were unanimous: American workers need a raise. The contrast with the Republicans, who continue to be led by Donald Trump on this as on so many issues, couldn’t have been sharper.”
Obama II
Hillary Clinton plans to hug Barack Obama all the way to the nomination.

“In Saturday’s Democratic presidential debate, Hillary Clinton made clear that she’s not going to repeat Gore’s mistake. She’s going to hug Barack Obama all the way to the Democratic nomination and beyond. Here are six moments in which she telegraphed her loyalty.”
She will have to let go of him whenever it is necessary to snuggle up to Bernie Sanders. 🙂

But, of course, international terrorism is a major issue that we have got to address today. And I agree with much of what the Secretary and the Governor have said. But let me have one area of disagreement with the Secretary.
I think she said something like the bulk of the responsibility is not ours. Well, in fact, I would argue that the disastrous invasion of Iraq, something that I strongly opposed, has unraveled the region completely and led to the rise of al-Qaeda and to ISIS.
Now, in fact, what we have got to do — and I think there is widespread agreement here — is the United States cannot do it alone. What we need to do is lead an international coalition which includes very significantly the Muslim nations in that region who are going to have to fight and defend their way of life.
Hillary Clinton Is the Peerless 2016 Candidate
None of the other 17 presidential contenders seems remotely ready for the presidency.
BY BRIAN BEUTLER
https://newrepublic.com/article/123854/hillary-clinton-is-the-peerless-2016-candidate
“But lump all 18 together and it’s striking how many are outright unqualified to be president, and how only one—Hillary Clinton—has mastered issues in every substantive realm, and already resembles a president.
There are a few—a precious few—Republican candidates who seem temperamentally suited to the presidency, and both Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley likewise are clearly hinged enough to not let the presidency completely overwhelm them.”
just finished an enjoyable off-the-wall book titled “the book of the dead: lives of the justly famous and the undeservedly obscure” by lloyd & mitchinson
(they also wrote the “book of general ignorance”)
I love it when I find out something so totally new to me that I didn’t even suspect it existed. Hugo Weaving is one of my favorite actors. He has been cast at the father of Desmond Doss in a new film currently in production called Hacksaw Ridge. Did anyone else know that the Congressional Medal of Honor has been given to conscientious objectors? Desmond Doss was the first during WW II conflict in Okinawa. Could be interesting film. There have been two more Thomas W. Bennett and Joseph G. LaPointe, Jr.
In line with the obscure and unknown, our buddy Steve Cragg published a Voltaire quote today: “The more I read, the more I acquire, the more certain I am that I know nothing”.
I guess when your campaign is going down the drain, you can say anything no matter how stupid.
What have you got to lose.
“As it relates to the refugees, I think we need to do thorough screen,” said Bush. “And take a limited number. But ultimately, the best way to deal with the refugee crisis is to create safe zones inside of Syria so that people don’t risk their lives, and you don’t have what will be a national security challenge for both our country and for Europe of screening.” Jeb Bush
How do you create security zones inside Syria without large numbers of forces on the ground?
As for safe zones, ask the Kurds how well those worked out.
Jesus, Joseph and Mary! This guy is supposed to be the smart one? No wonder Trump and Carson are cleaning his clock.
Yes, Jace, i have to agree, oh how dumb Jeb is.. I knew it long ago though cause i live in Florida..
Tony,
Hoping that all Floridians know what you know.
Lol, i don’t know about that, ha.. There’s some kinda crazy going on down here :0)
Loved Col Jack Jacobs today repeating a lesson learned by the British a century or so ago as he emphasized about actions today vs actions in Iraq many years ago. You can go in. You can conquer. Then you have to have a huge occupying force for decades or it all falls apart. If you aren’t willing to do that. Don’t go.
jamie,
Jacobs makes a point well worth remembering.
I have no idea how the French authorities will respond to these attacks.
I am reasonably certain however that they will not respond by invading the wrong country, or any country and squandering world opinion for their cause in the process…

“You can go in. You can conquer. Then you have to have a huge occupying force for decades or it all falls apart.”
jamie and jace, yeah, even the mongols had to do it a couple of times
’til they gave up. interesting according to wiki “The Mongols conquered, either by force or voluntary submission, the areas today known as Iran, Iraq, Syria, Caucasus and parts of Turkey, with further Mongol raids reaching southwards as far as Gaza into the Palestine region in 1260 and 1300” see at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasions_and_conquests#West_Asia and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasions_of_the_Levant

from the essay by Joanne Cronrath Bamberger:
I Don’t Need Hillary Clinton to Be Perfect
Hillary lost in 2008 because we demanded perfection from a female candidate – hopefully we’re better than that now.
http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2015/11/16/i-dont-need-hillary-clinton-to-be-perfect
We clearly still live in a time where women are criticized and judged more harshly than men based on this expectation of perfection
Republicans really excited to have other people fight and pay for their war!

“Remember, gun attacks are only scary when Muslims do the shooting. The NRA has made that perfectly clear. Over 280,000 killed by guns in the US in the past decade alone is perfectly okay, apparently.
Yet not one of those Republicans has called for raising taxes to pay for their war.
Not one of those Republicans has encouraged their children or grandchildren to sign up and fight their war.
No, it’s always someone else’s money, and the blood of someone else’s family member.
If they want to convince people their war aims are altruistic and genuine, they can lead by putting their own interests on the line.
Don’t hold your breath. “

In particular Noah spoke of the hashtag ‘PorteOuverte’, or ‘open the door’, which saw locals taking strangers into their homes to keep them safe as Paris went into lock-down,The Daily Beast reported.
‘To the people of France, we commend you,’ Noah said.
‘I will say you are ruining our cultural stereotypes, because the French are supposed to be cold and unwelcoming, and then you do these beautiful things, and who do we make jokes about now, Finland?
‘Because we will, we will make jokes about Finland, if we have to.’
‘But our prayers will be with Paris. Our prayers are with the people.
‘But let’s not forget, before we fight, to love.’

But if U.S. politicians define Islam as the problem and cast aspersions on Muslim populations in the West, they are feeding the Islamic State narrative. They are materially undermining the war against terrorism and complicating the United States’ (already complicated) task in the Middle East. Rejecting a blanket condemnation of Islam is not a matter of political correctness. It is the requirement of an effective war against terrorism, which means an effective war against the terrorist kingdom in Syria and western Iraq.
None of the Democrats Has a Strategy for ISIS
BY RYAN LIZZA

“Clinton may have been even more constrained in her responses. Sitting on an enormous lead, she was loath to say anything that might cause a reaction from the anti-war Democratic base that Obama tapped in 2008 to beat her. But aside from the obvious politics, she may have believed her caution was the more responsible course. She might not want to box in Obama, who has yet to settle on a new course against ISIS, by laying out her own more ambitious and detailed plan. And given her dominance in the race so far, she may not have wanted to box in the next President, either.”
from http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-11-16/obama-says-republican-calls-for-refugee-religious-test-shameful
President Barack Obama said suggestions that the U.S. impose a religious test on Syrian refugees are “shameful” and un-American, lashing out at Republican presidential candidates, including Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz, who have called for accepting Christians from the region rather than Muslims.
“That’s not American. That’s not who we are,” Obama said, responding to a question at a news conference Monday at the Group of 20 summit in Antalya, Turkey. “We don’t have religious tests to our compassion.”
[….]
“When I hear folks say that maybe we should just admit the Christians but not the Muslims, when I hear political leaders suggesting that there would be a religious test for which person who’s fleeing from a war-torn country is admitted, when some of those folks themselves come from families who benefited from protection when they were fleeing political persecution, that’s shameful,” Obama said.
next the republican candidates will be calling for internment camps
They are waiting until Dec 7th–if it was right in ’41, it’s right now. They’ll be asking for Japanese Americans to be the camp administrators.
