One of my favorite singers is Kate Ceberano.  I recently tweeted how much I liked her version of Skylark and actually got an reply.  Awhile later she started raving about a favorite Melbourne group:  Clairy Brown & The Bangin’ Rackettes.  As a result, I get to go shopping and you get songs about people sending messages:

First Up:  Aforesaid Clairy Browne & The Rackettes with Love Letter

Then because Kate sent me a message, you get her beautiful Love Don’t Live Here Anymore

Robert Plant & Allison Krause – Please Read The Letter

Joe Cocker – The Letter

R. B. Greaves – Take A Letter Maria

Very cool, Jamie! Love the tweet!

The Clairy Browne and The Bangin’ Rackettes one had an Amy Winehouse flavor to it. Definitely liked it. Also enjoyed Robert Plant and Allison Krause — just saw her brother playing bass on tour with Lyle Lovett when he was in town last month.

I am a major Lyle Lovett fan so that must have been quite a show.

It was crazygood. The level of musicianship was absolutely tippy tippy top. The fiddler Luke Bulla *kiss into the air* and the mandolin player Keith Sewell got raving applause from a hungry Maritime mandolin-loving crowd.

That is a fantastic Set. And I love the envelope banner.

I’m a hair-dishevelled heilan’ coo,
Hamish McKay be ma name;
Welcome tae this dreichet glen
I’m cursed tae ca’ ma hame.
Depending on the mood I’m in
I’ll raise ma horns on high,
An’ if I like the look o’ ye
I’ll likely let ye by.
But should I dinnae like the look
O’ ye, then tak great care,
I’ll raise ma horns on high again,
Go on, get oot o’there!
So whether welcome yae or nae,
I’ll raise these horns sae mean,
Then ye shall ken ma meaning
By the twinkle o’ ma een.
